The Louisville Courier-Journal covered Rand’s announcement to form an official exploratory committee. The article discussed Rand’s ability to raise significant funds, the passion of his grassroots followers, and the never ending Jim Bunning saga. Interestingly, the story pointed out that Rand began to mull over a potential Senate bid, when Republican State Senate President, David Williams, showed interest in Bunning’s seat. Williams voted to increase alcohol, cigarette, and gasoline taxes, and he refused to sign the no-tax increase pledge sponsored by Paul’s very own organization, Kentucky Taxpayers United.

This is a great example of the Republican double-speak which has plagued the party for the last several years. Talk big about fiscal conservatism, but vote the opposite. Rand flatly rejects tax hikes. Instead of raising taxes on hard working taxpayers, he advocates cutting wasteful government spending in order to restore balanced budgets.
