BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Today, Dr. Rand Paul earned the endorsement of Gun Owners of America in his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky.

Gun Owners of America (GOA) is a non-profit lobbying organization formed in 1975 to preserve and defend the Second Amendment rights of gun owners. Over the past 30 years, GOA has built a nationwide network of attorneys to help fight court battles in almost every state to protect gun-owner rights.

“This campaign is proud to have the endorsement of Gun Owners of America,” said Jesse Benton, Paul’s campaign manager. “Politicians often give lip service to the Second Amendment but then go off to Washington and vote to restrict gun ownership. Dr. Paul will always stand alongside groups like GOA to protect our rights.”

On Second Amendment issues, Dr. Paul has shown a clear difference from his opponent Jack Conway, who has supported federal restrictions on gun ownership.

In his 2002 candidacy for Congress, Jack Conway signaled his support for the following two positions regarding Second Amendment rights in a Project Vote Smart survey:

  • Maintain and strengthen the enforcement of existing federal restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.
  • Require background checks on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows. (Congressional Candidate Jack Conway, 2002 Vote Smart Survey)

Among gun owner rights advocates, Gun Owners of America is viewed as one of the most respected groups lobbying to protect Second Amendment rights.
