Bills don’t do enough to address massive deficit

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sen. Rand Paul today voted in opposition to HR-1, the full-year continuing appropriations act, on the basis of its lack of real action toward defeating our nation’s debt crisis.

“I can’t support spending at this level when we’re faced with a $1.5 trillion deficit. I’ve consistently opposed adding to the deficit and will continue my opposition with my vote today,” Sen. Paul said.

“If we were to adopt the president’s approach, we would have $1.65 trillion deficit in one year. If we were to adopt the House approach, we’re going to have a $1.55 trillion deficit in one year. I think both approaches do not significantly alter or delay the crisis that’s coming,” he continued. “Borrowing money on the backs of our children and grandchildren is unacceptable. We must take bold action to end excessive spending in Washington in order to protect our country for future generations.”
