Senate Tea Party Caucus Meets – Washington Post Mocks

The first ever meeting of the Senate Tea Party Caucus was convened yesterday on Capitol Hill and it was a great success. The left wing media is doing everything they can to demonize the Tea Party movement. It is not going to work.

The Heritage Foundation sent a camera and here is a video of the proceedings for those who could not make the first meeting which was open to the public.

Here is the opening paragraph of the Washington Post story today.

The Republican senators who rode the tea party wave to victory in the fall are now weighing whether that label will help them on Capitol Hill or become a scarlet letter.

Why would being a member of the Tea Party be a “scarlet letter?” I think Tea Party members agree that there is infighting between the major Tea Party groups, but the Tea Party movement is unified by an ideology. All Tea Party groups want to shrink the size and scope of the federal government.

The Washington Post reported that three Senators elected by the Tea Party movement have yet to join the caucus.

Thursday offered the first clear illustration of their situation as the newly formed Senate Tea Party Caucus held its inaugural meeting without three of the senators who won election under the tea party banner.

Those three are Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI), Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Pat Toomey (R-PA). That should not be an indication that there is a boycott by conservatives of the Tea Party Caucus. It is an indication that these members are more cautious and not ready to embrace the idea of a Tea Party Caucus just yet. These members should be judged on the basis of whether they support the Tea Party agenda. Don’t let the liberal Washington Post create a schism between the Tea Party Caucus and these more cautious members of the conservative movement.

Below is an article by the Bowling Green Daily News on Dr. Paul’s campaigning through to the last few days of the election:

Paul has moved further ahead of Conway in the most recent round of polling.

“We feel really good. We think the moment is with us,” Paul said in a telephone interview with the Daily News.

A Rasmussen Reports survey of 750 likely voters released Friday showed Paul with 53 percent support and Conway with 41 percent. Four percent were undecided and 2 percent were choosing another candidate.

A SurveyUSA Poll, commissioned by the (Louisville) Courier-Journal and WHAS-TV, has Paul leading Conway 52 percent to 43 percent.

“Senate candidate Rand Paul tours southern Kentucky”

Below is a story from WKYT on Dr. Rand Paul’s visit to the area.

U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul stayed busy on the campaign trail Thursday.

The Republican met with about several dozen supporters Thursday near the Adair County Courthouse in Columbia.

Most of his five minute speech centered on how he thinks President Obama is taking the country in the wrong direction.

He specifically mentioned the President’s Health Care Bill , the banking bill, and Cap and Trade, as to why he thinks new leadership is needed in Washington.

“Which would put 100,000 Kentuckians out of work,” said Paul, speaking of those in the coal mining industry.

Paul says government is not the answer to end the recession.

“Ronald Reagan said in 1981, government is not the solution to the problem. Government is the problem,” Paul said. “Unfortunately we now have an administration who thinks government is the answer to every problem.”

Paul also made stops in Russell Springs, Somerset and Albany.

While some of the polls indicate the race between Paul and Democrat Jack Conway is close, Paul says his momentum is building, and he thanks his supporters.

Paul Campaigns Throughout South Central Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In a day-long road trip yesterday, Dr. Rand Paul visited a number of communities in south central Kentucky, rallying supporters and talking with voters.

The first stop was at the George J. Ellis restaurant in Glasgow, where Dr. Paul met with supporters and local officials. Dr. Paul visited with diners enjoying lunch and sharing in their support for his vision for Kentucky.

From Glasgow, it was a quick trip up the road to the Columbia town square, where on the footsteps of the Adair County Courthouse, Dr. Paul rallied supporters who were sick and tired of the Obama agenda taking our country in the wrong direction.

At a stop at Mitchell’s Family Restaurant in Russell Springs, Dr. Paul addressed a group of primarily seniors who were interested in his plan to protect them from the hidden costs and fees in the massive Obamacare legislation.

In Somerset, the place to be was Honeybaked Ham. Supporters came out to hear what Dr. Paul will do to protect small businesses and entrepreneurs from the tax-and-spend agenda of Washington establishment liberals.

In the final event yesterday in Albany, a packed house of Kentucky GOP supporters convened on the fairgrounds for dinner. From the local PVAs to members of the state legislature, everyone rallied together in unity for Dr. Paul’s vision for Kentucky, and even delivered a standing ovation at the conclusion of his remarks.

Paul Announces He Will Attend KET Debate

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- At a news conference today in Lexington, Dr. Rand Paul announced that he would attend the final scheduled debate between he and his opponent Jack Conway, despite the shameful political attack ad released by Conway earlier in the week attacking Paul’s religious beliefs.

Below are Dr. Paul’s remarks:

I continue to be astounded that Jack Conway thinks it is appropriate to attack my pro-life Christian faith and by inference my family. To date, he has refused to apologize for his abhorrent behavior and that is a shame.

For the past week, Republicans and Democrats across the nation have condemned my opponent’s ad as “despicable,” “odious,” and “dangerous.”

Throughout the last year and a half, dozens of people have brought personally damaging information to us about my opponent and his family. My instructions to my staff, “We won’t go there.”

Do I want a pat on the back for this? No. But would I like to raise the debate to a higher plane? Yes.

For that reason, while I do not respect Mr. Conway’s inappropriate attacks, I do respect the voters of this state and therefore will participate in Monday’s final debate.

Kentuckians deserve another opportunity to understand the very real differences between Jack and myself.

With ten days to go, I wish the campaign were about who has the best vision for Kentucky and America. We face a serious debt crisis in this country and I want to be part of finding the solution. I don’t think the debate is advanced by personal invective and slander.

As the campaign comes to a close, I will continue to talk about the main issues of the day: an unsustainable debt, the federal takeover of healthcare, the President’s desire to raise taxes in a recession, and the President’s policies that are destroying coal related jobs.

I ask my opponent to do likewise, to aspire to statesmanship, to seek a higher plane for the betterment of our citizenry and cast aside the politics of personal destruction that diminish us all.

Rand Paul Bus Tour at the Louisville Gun Show

Bus Tour Day Seven:

Rand Paul’s Campaign bus tour made a day of it in Louisville. The bus made its way into town on National Gun Day and stayed for a while at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center.

While at the gun show, Dr. Paul met and shook hands with the attendees who thanked him for his support of 2nd Amendment rights. Dr. Paul delivered a speech to the crowd, where he touched on issues of concern and talked about his commitment to protecting everyone’s 2nd Amendment rights.

Afterward, Dr. Paul held a press conference where he received the endorsement of Gun Owners of America for his stance on 2nd Amendment and gun rights issues. Among gun owner rights advocates, Gun Owners of America is viewed as one of the most respected groups lobbying to protect Second Amendment rights.

Rand Paul Bus Tour Makes Stops in Bardstown, Lexington, Nicholasville, Richmond

Bus Tour Day Five:

The first stop of the day was in Bardstown at Tom’s Pig restaurant. Dr. Paul spoke to a crowd of supporters about the main issues of the campaign, cap and trade, Obamacare, and balancing the budget by law. Dr. Paul was joined by local Republican candidate Alan Brown and others.

Next, the tour stopped in Lexington where Dr. Paul spoke before a GOP women’s luncheon.

Stop number three was in Nicholasville at the local GOP headquarters where once again a sizable crowd gathered to hear Dr. Paul’ speech on the major issues of the campaign.

The final stop of the day was in Richmond at the Madison County Republican headquarters, where Dr. Paul was joined by Congressional candidate Andy Barr, and candidate Phil Moffit.

Rand Paul Bus Tour Stops in Bardwell, Mayfield, Murray, Hopkinsville

Bus Tour Day Four:

The day started off at the Paducah Area Chamber debate in the morning where Dr. Paul faced opponent Jack Conway, handily exposing Conway’s wrong positions on the major issues. Dr. Paul pointed out Conway’s distortions and support for Obamacare which cuts half-a-trillion dollars from seniors and raises their deductibles.

The second stop of the day was at the GOP headquarters in Mayfield. Dr. Paul spoke before a large and enthusiastic crowd along with Congressman Ed Whitfield, US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and State Senate President David Williams.

From there the bus of elected officials and candidates made its way to Bardwell for the local fish fry at the Bardwell Fire House. The crowd was large, and receptive to Dr. Paul’s message.

The fourth stop of the day was Murray State University, where Dr. Paul had an audience with a group of college republicans. The group included a number of students and others eager to see Dr. Paul speak.

The last stop of the day was in Hopkinsville for a local Tea Party rally.

“Political hopefuls turn gaze to west Kentucky”

Below is a report from WPSD-TV Paducah about the recent U.S. Senatorial debate.

PADUCAH – The mics have been checked, the podiums are in place and last minute preparations are under way at the Carson Center.

On Thursday morning, Rand Paul and Jack Conway will take center stage there to debate.

Lynn King will serve as the debate’s moderator and says she is glad to see the area getting attention.

“We have very important projects. We have come together as a region, made a list, and are interested to hear what commitments these men have for us in West Kentucky.”

The attention, Mark Wilson says, is long overdue, “It’s about time.”

Wilson is the Fancy Farm Picnic Chairman and he knows firsthand the importance of voters meeting candidates.

“They want them to show up, not just see them on the tube or hear them on the radio,” he said.

He said it is a smart move for Paul and Conway to head to western Kentucky.

The latest poll numbers show Paul up by as much as ten points. But some political experts said the race is just too early to call. Both men are pushing full steam ahead.
