When Senator Jim Bunning made his principled stand for taxpayers this week, he reminded us of what our biggest problem is right now: The government is spending money it doesn’t have. Our money. Our children’s money.

Our out of control federal government continues to add to the deficit at an unprecedented rate. This year’s deficit is projected to be over 1.5 trillion dollars; an all time high. Our national debt is now over 12 trillion dollars.

And there are no plans to stop. Just last month, Congress added over $200 billion more to our tab, the largest one-month deficit ever.

Career politicians and their wasteful spending have us drowning in a sea of debt.

That’s why Rand Paul is running for Senate.

From the beginning of this campaign, Rand Paul has demanded that we return our government to fiscal sanity and back to the confines of the constitution. Rand Paul will fight for a Balanced Budget amendment to rein in out of control government spending.

He has taken a no earmark pledge and strongly opposes more earmarked, pork barrel spending schemes.

Earmark ban coming?

Rand Paul has made a ban on wasteful earmark spending in Washington D.C. one of the key points of his campaign. He has supported Sen. Jim DeMint’s vocal support for an earmark ban and he supports news that House Democrats are even coming around on the idea of a partial ban.

“The Tea Party movement is an effort to get government under control,” Rand said. “I’m running to represent Kentuckians and to dismantle the culture of professional politicians in Washington. Leadership isn’t photo-ops with oversized fake cardboard checks. That kind of thinking is bankrupting our nation. Senator DeMint understands that and has taken action to stop it.”

Rand’s emphasis on reform has ruffled a lot of establishment feathers, but it is clear that the more regular citizens are getting the message every day as his campaign continues to grow.

Congressional Quarterly’s new article on prominent national candidates campaigning on term limits highlights Rand Paul’s leadership on the issue:

“That’s our big issue, actually, probably the No, 1 issue I talk about,” said Rand Paul.

“I always felt like there were problems, really, on both sides of the aisle, a lot of it related to longevity and seniority,” Rand Paul said. “I see the pork-barrel spending as being related to seniority.”

Inexplicably, Rand’s professional politician opponents disagree.

Rand Paul also supports balanced budgets, getting the government out of the business of “managing” the economy, and a strong national defense. He is the leading candidate in Kentucky’s U.S. Senate race.

Rand wins pro-life vote

The Associated Press has picked up on coverage of the latest independent polling in Kentucky’s U.S. Senate race:

The Courier-Journal/WHAS-11 Bluegrass Poll found Rand Paul, a Bowling Green doctor, leads Secretary of State Trey Grayson 42 percent to 27 percent in the GOP race.

New Rand Paul poll

Sunday’s Louisville Courier Journal reports a commanding fifteen point lead in Kentucky’s U.S. Senate GOP primary for Rand Paul.

The poll was performed by SurveyUSA, which according to Wall Street Journal analysis was the most accurate poll in the last election cycle.

Here’s the official campaign response:

“Rand Paul has earned a lot of credibility on the issues Kentuckians care about like a balanced federal budget, term limits, strong national defense and following the U.S. Constitution. The Tea Party movement has clearly gotten the attention of Kentucky Republicans.”

Rand Paul’s winning message was fueled tonight by another fantastic variety of supporters around Kentucky. A farmer in Cave City donated $25, a software developer in Lexington gave $100, a minister in Cloverport gave $25, and an engineer in Paducah chipped in $100.

I’m not making this up, folks. It just keeps coming. We greatly appreciate the confidence in Rand’s campaign. Please help spread the word to make the March 23 money bomb the biggest one yet.

The last five contributions this morning on RandPaul2010.com continue to show the amazing strength of Rand Paul’s grassroots movement. A Georgetown factory worker gave $25, an Ashland bank employee gave $15, a Louisville truck driver gave $10, a Whitesville farmer gave $22, and a Louisville health insurance worker gave $50.

Rand’s outspoken support for balanced budgets, term limits, and strong national defense have enabled him to move quickly from longshot candidate to frontrunner in all the polls to be Kentucky’s next U.S. Senator. The Republican primary election is May 18.

Rand urges EPA opposition

Rand Paul encourages his U.S. Senate opponents in both parties to join him in calling a halt to the latest Environmental Protection Agency’s sneak attack on American consumers. The EPA is attempting to circumvent congressional limitations on its regulation of greenhouse gases.

The EPA scheme would impose higher energy costs on consumers without a corresponding benefit. The EPA should delay implementing regulation of greenhouse gases and defer to Congress, who should debate the issue fully.
