Rand Paul visited Western Kentucky University for a health care town-hall meeting, where he addressed over a hundred individuals, mostly students, many of whom signed up to volunteer for the campaign. A voter registration drive was also held outside.

The event lasted almost two hours, and Rand answered unfiltered questions from those assembled.

When asked if there is an individual right to health care, Dr. Paul responded: “I don’t think we have a right to health care. I think you have a right to the pursuit of happiness, but you don’t have a right to happiness. You don’t have a right to something concrete, because if you do, you’re basically saying I’m your slave. I provide health care. My staff, technicians, janitors and dieticians all provide it. If we have a right to health care, we have a right to their labor. We don’t have a right. You can turn that around and say: ‘Do I have a Christian obligation to help my fellow man?’ Yes! But if you come to me and say you have a right to something, that’s saying you have a right to my labor, and I think that’s where we’ve become confused about rights. You don’t have a right to a car. Think about it, do you have a right to food? Nobody says you can just walk into a grocery store and take what you need. You’re supposed to pay for it. Do we have an obligation to feed those who don’t have enough? Yes. So I think it’s important how we address the question of rights.”
