The power of ideas

Giving everyone a taste of attacks yet to come in 2010, the Lexington Herald Leader editorial board started off January 1 with a silly “New Year’s Resolution” for Rand Paul:

“U.S. SENATE CANDIDATE RAND PAUL: Money isn’t everything! Some of the best things in life are free — like good ideas.”

Rand went all over the state in 2009 talking about turning back political support for bailouts, restoring capitalist innovations to health care, and putting insatiable bureaucrats on a permanent diet with no deficit spending. None of these solutions will be easy to implement in the face of resistance from professional politicians, but the quality of the ideas can only be found lacking by pundits who just aren’t paying attention.

The editors’ obvious insinuation does not reflect well on them. We can only hope they will upgrade the quality of their rhetoric in the months ahead.
