US Senate Race Takes Forefront At St John’s Picnic
ST. JOHN’S, KY - The race for US Senate took the forefront Saturday afternoon at the St. John’s Picnic in McCracken County.
Republican Rand Paul of Bowling Green chided the Obama administration for its stimulus money and Cash for Clunkers program. “They tell you, ‘Just go to the mall, everything’s okay.’ But no one asks the hard questions: ‘Where does the money come from?’ ”
Paul said America has become “the greatest debtor nation known to man, spending money at $53,000 a second. Interest on the national debt is $30 billion a month.” He suggests that the nation needs a balanced budget amendment like Kentucky and 29 other states have. “Contrast that with the federal government which simply has a printing press.” Paul vowed that he would not vote for any budget that is not balanced.
He also proposed term limits for Congressmen because “even if you are lucky enough to get a good person to go to Washington, the process corrupts them.”
