Joins 39 Senators to protect Internet freedom
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sen. Rand Paul today joined 39 fellow Republican Senators in co-sponsoring a resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to repeal net neutrality regulations recently adopted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Introduced by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (Texas), Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), and Senator John Ensign (Nev.), the CRA allows for the expedited consideration of a privileged resolution of disapproval to stop a federal agency from implementing a rule or regulation with the full force of law. It cannot be filibustered if acted upon within a specific 60-day window and needs only a simple majority in the Senate to pass.
“I support this action to put a stop to the FCC and Obama administration’s unauthorized power grab into private industry. This is an important first step in rolling back big-government involvement in the private sector,” Sen. Paul said. “Reducing the size of government is something all Americans can benefit from, and this is an example of where we can start.”
