A check you can cash

The nation’s largest auto dealers association warned new car dealers Wednesday to stop doing “Cash for Clunkers” deals to avoid getting stiffed by the federal government, just as an Obama administration official promised that every subsidized transaction will be funded.

The National Automobile Dealers Association estimates the $3 billion in taxpayer funds may have already been committed and says that new applications to the program may not be reimbursed. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said “there will be no car dealer that won’t be reimbursed.”

Talk about writing a check you can’t cash.

Dr. Rand Paul has repeatedly warned against wasting borrowed money on “Cash for Clunkers.” Expanding the program to waste even more is the last thing we need. That’s why Rand Paul supports balanced budgets and a quick end to unconstitutional programs like “Cash for Clunkers” so we might get back to writing checks we can cash.
