House May Block Food Safety Bill Over Senate Error

A food safety bill that has burned up precious days of the Senate’s lame-duck session appears headed back to the chamber because Democrats violated a constitutional provision requiring that tax provisions originate in the House.
By pre-empting the House’s tax-writing authority, Senate Democrats appear to have touched off a power struggle with members of their own [...]

Irish Relief Fleeting as `Day of Reckoning’ Nears

Borrowing costs for Europe’s most indebted nations are at record highs as Ireland’s capitulation in accepting a bailout of its banking industry stokes concern that other countries also will have to seek aid.
The average yield for 10-year debt from Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Italy reached 7.57 percent today, a euro- era record. The average [...]

Here’s Why the Fed Plan Is Failing: We’re All Austrians Now

It’s no accident that Austrian economics is newly popular. It provides the best explanation for the business cycle we just lived through.
But the resurgent popularity of Austrian economics may actually be hampering the ability of the Federal Reserve to reflate the economy with low interest rate policies. Businesses, now aware of the dangers of a [...]

Cap-and-Trade Likely to be Buried by new Congress

This is what the 2010 midterm elections will change about U.S. climate policy: Cap-and-trade was dead. Now it will be deader.
The Republican rout on Nov. 2 swept in dozens of new representatives and senators opposed to using a cap-and-trade scheme to tackle greenhouse gas emissions. By one estimate, almost half of GOP freshman legislators don’t even believe [...]

Reader Letter | McConnell, Paul likely to exert influence

If we learned anything from this year’s midterm elections, it was that the American public is fed up with Washington. Although results indicate the tide seems to be flowing towards Republicans, this election was more a referendum on the ineptitude of many incumbents. However, particular to us Kentuckians, the election positioned two members from Kentucky’s [...]

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas, delivered the following remarks on the Senate floor regarding his Balanced Budget Amendment resolution, which has been adopted by the Senate Republican Conference:

Rand Paul: I’m a “Fan” of Divided Government

With 37 incoming members who also identify themselves as Tea Party politicians, it won’t be his affiliation that makes Sen.-Elect Rand Paul (R-Ky.) unique on Capitol Hill in January.
But it may be his excitement about working with a divided House and Senate that sets him apart.
In an interview with “Washington Unplugged,” this Republican from Kentucky [...]

TAXES & DEBT

With our national debt over 12 trillion dollars, the deficit spending by Washington DC continues to mortgage fruits of our future labor to fund federal programs we don’t need and cannot afford. Rand Paul would fight to balance the budget and dramatically reduce spending, before further interest on our debt requires government to reach deeper into our pockets and into our children’s piggy bank.

HEALTH CARE

As a doctor I have had first-hand experience with the vast problems facing health care in America. Like other areas of the economy where the federal government wields its heavy hand, health care is over-regulated and in need of serious market reforms. As Senator, I would ensure that real free market principles are applied to fix this problem.

FEDERAL RESERVE

With so much blame going around for the current financial crisis it is surprising that so few in the mainstream press have discussed the role of the Federal Reserve System. For too long the Federal Reserve has operated behind a shroud of mystery—as Senator I would make sure that all Americans understand the dangers of unsound monetary policy and shed light on this secretive organization.

PRIVACY & LIBERTY

The Federal Government must return to its constitutionally enumerated powers and restore our inalienable rights. America can prosper, preserve personal liberty, and repel national security threats without intruding into the personal lives of its citizens.

ENERGY INNOVATION

If we leave our energy policy to the special interests in Washington, we will never solve our energy problems. Our energy crisis stems from too much government intervention. The solution requires allowing businesses and ideas to compete.

LIFE

I am 100% pro life. I believe abortion is taking the life of an innocent human being.
I believe life begins at conception and it is the duty of our government to protect this life. Read More about my Pro-Life stance HERE
