Showing maturity in Congress

Dr. Rand Paul has made supporting only balanced federal budgets a key part of his campaign. This principled position has left his opponents with little choice but to criticize him in silly ways.

In Friday’s New York Times, however, columnist Paul Krugman made one accurate statement:

“The United States can deal with its debts if politicians of both parties are, in the end, willing to show at least a bit of maturity.”

Rand Paul encourages all of his opponents to follow his example and pledge that, if elected, they too will refuse to endorse an unbalanced federal budget.

There is one reason, however, why not all of them will follow Rand’s strong example.
