Dr. Rand Paul challenged his Democratic and Republican opponents in Kentucky’s U.S. Senate race on Monday to expand the national conversation about cancer treatment, an issue that has become lost in the partisan bickering over health care reform.
“Socialized medicine is a non-starter and nearly everyone knows that,” Dr. Paul said. “Fatality rates for prostate and colon cancers in England and France are double that of the United States largely because rationing of services in such a system leads to a critical delay in needed care.”
“The American free market works in health care to provide cutting-edge treatment options to save lives and restore people to health,” Paul said. “Maintaining and enhancing freedom in the system is key to improving outcomes and lowering costs.”
“At the very least, my fellow candidates in both parties should join me in using their public profiles to advocate for breast cancer awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October,” Paul said.
“Better health habits and early detection combine to lower costs and save lives. We should set aside our differences long enough to spread that message.”
