Uncle Sam, the insurance man

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Monday officially joined the Obama Administration in blaming insurance companies for the problems in American health care. His solution is to wipe the insurers out and replace them with an “opt-out competitive option.” In English, that means socialized medicine.

Rand Paul has been explaining to Kentuckians hungry for real answers that health insurers raise premiums because of rising costs largely caused by government and that making government’s role bigger is exactly the wrong thing to do.

Part of the answer is to get government to stop limiting the supply of health services, which raises prices. Another part is stop government from limiting payment options, which raises premiums. Socialized medicine, with government control and inevitable rationing, combined with obliterating rather than freeing the already overregulated insurance industry, is a recipe for disaster. It will surely lead to higher costs, higher taxes, worse health care, and greater dependency on the government.

“Giving Washington D.C. more power over our economic lives makes as much sense as putting rats in charge of the cheese,” Dr. Paul said. “They have stolen our money and mortgaged our future. We must stand up now and refuse to let them chew up any more our freedoms.”

Rand Paul will hold a Health Care Town Hall forum on Saturday, November 7 at 10 am at Valley High School in Louisville. Join him and learn how ordinary Americans can win this fight against out-of-control politicians and start regaining our freedoms.
